Tweeting cow Trewdy has big Facebook following too This is Devon --

Trewithen Dairy near Loswithiel is leading the way in the digital field with a seriously social tweeting cow called Trewdy, regular online video competitions, a growing herd of Facebook followers and a newly designed and fully-optimised website.

Among the Cornish herds producing milk for Trewithen is the county's first ever tweeting cow, who keeps her followers up to speed on daily happenings on the farm through her Twitter account @trewdythecow.

All summer Trewdy has been out and about on the move through a social-media campaign. Launched in June at the Royal Cornwall Show, the "Trewdy on the Moooove" initiative has encouraged people to sign up to receive their own cardboard cut-out cow.

She is flat-pack and portable, so able to fit into suitcases and rucksacks. Specially designed to be free-standing, Trewithen followers are using their imagination to help Trewdy strike a pose in a photo competition.

Trewithen is actively encouraging people to take pictures of Trewdy in local Cornish spots, exotic locations and iconic landmarks and upload them to Twitter and Facebook to win dairy product prizes.

Since launching the campaign, the dairy has increased its social media following significantly and is building consumer and customer relationships.

Francis Clarke, commercial director at Trewithen Dairy said: "We understand the importance of using social media to connect with customers and suppliers in a way that makes us accessible and responsive.

"We're also keen to get our brand ethos of quality and care across, and if we can do this in a creative and different way that communicates our personality, then even better."

As well as ongoing social media campaigns, the dairy has also invested in a new website, www.trewithendairy.co.uk, which features the dairy's new branding and complete product listings, and is fully optimised for mobile browsers. The site is cleverly tailored to the dairy's key audiences, with specific sections for farmers seeking to supply to the dairy, and trade suppliers seeking to stock the Trewithen range.

Mr Clarke said: "The dairy recognises that a vast majority of people now access websites through mobile browers and tablets."

Since re-branding in 2012, Trewithen has been using a variety of digital platforms to draw into the depth and knowledge of its dedicated farmers and communicate the nature of the Cornish dairies and the "Trewithen World".
